Instructure’s acquisition of Concentric Sky brings some changes for Canvas LMS users

Badgr digital micro-accreditation platform to be rebranded as Canvas badges, optional “Pro” upgrades coming soon

Structure today announced its acquisition of concentric skycreator of badr digital credential platform, is complete and Badgr core functions will be integrated into Canvas and rebranded as Canvas Badges.

Badgr was already the default microaccreditation tool in Instructure’s Canvas learning management system. With the merger, Badgr functions will be renamed and become part of Canvas LMS functionality, Instructure said in a press release. Additionally, the Badgr Pro suite of tools will be available to Canvas customers as a paid upgrade, offering unlimited badges, leaderboards, analytics, and custom journey progress visualizations, all in one bundle. called “Canvas Credentials”.

Canvas Credentials will allow institutions to “transparently assign badges that verify and track academic achievement, including competency-based education,” the company explained in a press release. With stackable and shareable credentials, students will be able to follow their personalized learning paths and demonstrate their skills and development.
