The move came after an eco-van was set on fire in Phougakchao Ikhang neighborhood in Bishnpur by “three to four youths from a community”. The incident is said to have created “a tense community situation and a law and order situation in the state”.

Large gatherings have also been banned in the neighborhood. The Bishnupur District Magistrate has also imposed CrPC Section 144 restraining orders for a period of two months across the Valley District, effective Saturday evening, the news agency reported. PTI.

There is “imminent danger of death and damage to public property”, according to the order issued by the government of the home department of Manipur.

The northeastern state has been experiencing tension since Friday, according to a PTI report, after the Manipur Student Union (ATSUM) imposed an indefinite economic blockade along the landlocked state’s national highways. Demanding Manipur Autonomous District Council (Hill Areas) Bill 2021, the student body staged protests after the government introduced the 6th and 7th Manipur District Council Amendment Bills ( hilly areas) earlier this week.

Through the bill, the student body demanded greater financial and administrative autonomy for the hill region to ensure development on par with the valley regions of the state.
