Alabama Community College System and Infrastructure Extends Relationship with Canvas

“Our schools have relied on Canvas to create a reliable and robust teaching and learning environment for many years now,” said Jimmy H. Baker, Chancellor of the Alabama Community College System. “Using these tools will help our faculty provide an unprecedented educational experience for students, so that they are prepared for the careers of tomorrow.”

ACCS schools started using Canvas in 2014 to build strong relationships between teachers and students, and to provide access to guaranteed, high-quality learning materials in all subject areas. Canvas LMS is a SaaS digital learning center that brings together students, instructors, and tools for a familiar digital learning environment in the physical, co-ed or online classroom. In addition, Canvas is fully mobile, ensuring learners have equitable access within every classroom.

“ACCS has consistently raised the bar with its forward-looking vision for improving student outcomes and its investment in tools and services that can help achieve that goal,” said Melissa Loblé, Director of Customer Experience at Instructure. “Now, with the addition of solutions such as Canvas Studio and Portfolio, the system opens up powerful new tools to engage students and support them on their college-to-career path. “

Canvas studio strengthens online education with video tools for teaching, learning and engagement. Studio is a next-generation video learning platform that turns passive one-way video into inclusive and productive virtual classroom discussions. Canvas Studio provides a set of tools for creating and delivering new interactive digital learning experiences. It allows content creation, video discussions, built-in quizzes, etc.

Portfolio addresses the challenges students face by preparing for a changing workforce through tools such as Pathways and Assessment. Using Portfolio, students can create an electronic portfolio to have permanent access to their learning artifacts, connect with other users, and organize content to help showcase their skills to potential employers. Journey engages students through personalized, stackable pathways that help students navigate their academic and extracurricular journeys, while providing a roadmap for acquiring new skills and competencies. Program evaluation helps to simplify, rationalize and standardize the accreditation process for higher education institutions.
